How To Make A Summer Scrapbook
The first thing you will want to think about before beginning your scrapbook is what kind of photos do you want to display? Another way to ask this question is what stories are you trying to tell? Make a list of everything you did this Summer and decide what is worth documenting. Some topics include family vacations, summer jobs, gardening, festivals, and a day-in-the-life. The beauty of scrapbooking is how it allows you to tangibly remember certain moments in time. Additionally, it allows you to free up storage space on your phone. If you happened to lose or damage your phone, a scrapbook is the perfect backup. Plus, it is a fun creative hobby!
Before you begin, you will want to gather all the necessary supplies. For a Summertime scrapbook you will want brightly colored paper and embellishments. While looking at your pictures come up with a common theme (i.e. tropical, forestry, boho sunshine, etc..) When your embellishments correspond to your photographs it gives the layout a more cohesive appearance. Also, grab the essential supplies such as scissors, glue, album cover and page protectors. Often, I get asked how much does it cost to make a scrapbook? And the answer is entirely up to you! Try using materials you have in your home. If you are making albums with family or friends share the supplies between each person so you can get the most out of them.
1. Family Vacation Album

It is a yearly tradition for my family and I to take a vacation down south to visit the beach. It is always such good quality time together that I never want to forget. To preserve each special memory I create custom scrapbooking layouts each year. Recently, my family visited Hilton Head Island and saw the historic lighthouse.
Using watercolor paint I washed the background in sea greens and blues. Then, I tore the edges around the middle to give it a rustic appearance. Finding stickers that match your theme will make your pages cohesive. I found this adorable lighthouse sticker to decorate the page with and added a fun title. It only takes a couple of materials to create a stunning layout. If you are planning on creating a beachy layout of your own try using watercolor paints to achieve an ocean-like water effect.
2. Happy Best Friend Layouts

Perhaps the best part about Summertime is the endless days spent with friends. It is almost guaranteed that even a boring day with friends will give you something to scrapbook about. All the inside jokes and chill nights are definitely worth remembering.
To create this layout I cut a large sunshine out of white cardstock using a Cricut cutting machine. Then, I backed the cutout with fun patterned paper. If you do not own a Cricut machine you may hand-cut the sun out. Using bright, patterned scrapbook paper brightens up the page with pops of color. Add little scribbles of paint and stickers around the background to add even more fun details! I adore adding decorative paper clips to bring in additional design elements.

3. A Dash Of Yellow

I think we can all agree that yellow is the official color of Summer. Yellow is cheerful and happy, and is the color of sunsets, flowers, and bees. Primarily using the color yellow on this page layout helps create a cohesive and simple design. If you wish to challenge yourself, attempt to create a monochromatic layout using solely 1-2 colors.
To begin, I simply cut out multiple pentagon shapes out of yellow patterned paper and adhered those to the background. Then, I added different embellishments including stamps, flowers, and quote cards. To top it off I added specs of gold glitter for extra dimension. My goal was to make it appear like honeycomb. Regardless, geometric shapes make any page stunning.
4. Cute berry Picking Scrapbook Layout

If you are looking for a fun activity to add onto your bucket list, try going berry picking. Visit your fruit farm and see what dates they have for blueberry, strawberry, or raspberry picking. Strawberry season runs through May/ June and Blackberries can be picked in July. This is the perfect bonding activity to try with your friends and family.
This 6×8 scrapbook layout was created using Simple Stories flipbook album. These albums are super easy to put together. I love the compact size as it can easily fit into any bag to bring with you wherever. If you wish to bring your album with you to work on while traveling this is perfect for you.
5. Taste of Ice Cream

Ice cream is my favorite Summertime treat! Who doesn’t love the sweet creaminess of an ice cream sundae? I loved the colors of this banana split sundae and wanted to design a layout around it. Using this striped patterned paper to bring out the yellowness from the pineapple sauce and red from the cherries. I also decorated this page with a cute sticker banner using twine. Flag banners are a great element to add to any Summer vacation scrapbook.
6. Summer Camp Scrapbook Ideas
Camping trips are fun for all ages as there are tons of activities to do. Being out in nature during the Summer nights is such a magical feeling. Nothing like falling asleep to the sound of crickets and frogs underneath the stars. I will say I do prefer cabin camping as opposed to sleeping in a tent. If you are lucky enough to go camping this year, make sure to take plenty of photos of your trip.
One of my favorite Summer scrapbook ideas includes incorporating maps onto your page. If your map is big enough you may use it as the background paper. Overwise, placing it alongside photographs will add a bit of personalized detail to your page. Plus, it is really fun getting to look at an aerial view of your campsite destination.
7. State Fair Layouts
Another great opportunity to partake in is to visit your local state or county fair. Not only are there thrilling rides but also fun carnival games, shopping booths, animals, and concerts. Personally, I love going for the delicious food. All the funnel cakes and ice cream you can eat. Last year during a trip to the Ohio State fair they had an arts and crafts display with work from local scrapbookers.
This is another great layout design to try if you have multiple photographs to display. I created this scrapbooking page to show off all the tasty treats I tried and all the cute farm animals I saw. Blocking the photos in rows of 2-3 helps to organize everything. While still saving enough room for the title and embellishments. Remember, print off smaller sized photos if you plan on using multiple on a single page. I find 3×3 inches is the perfect size for smaller images.
8. Summer Scrapbook Ideas For The 4th Of July

In America, celebrating the fourth of July is a big deal. It is a fun time to be patriotic and to celebrate living in the U.S.A! There are many different ways to celebrate the 4th. For some people it includes festive parades, BBQs, and watching the fireworks at night with family. The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays to scrapbook with all the adorable designs.
The best way to decorate your fourth of July scrapbook layout is to gather all the red, white, and blue paper supplies you can find. Bonus points if it has stars or stripes. This simple layout was made using scrap paper which I cut into tiny squares. If you have a bunch of leftover scrapbook paper from another project this is the perfect way to reuse those scraps. In addition to the squares, I also stitched along each column to bring in some rustic details. Finally, I added in basic stickers including the flag banner which ties in with the photo perfectly.
9. Taking A Walk Through History And Gardens
The beauty of Summer is getting to experience nature when everything is alive and thriving. Taking walks through nature is a great experience, especially if there is education and history involved. Last Summer I got to visit Magnolia Gardens, one of South Carolina's oldest plantations. With it’s rich history and expansive garden trails there is so much to see and learn. You may tour the homes, walk through the flowering gardens, visit the petting zoo, or go on detailed guided tours. The land was owned by the Drayton family for multiple generations.

10. Visiting Farmer's Markets

Every year I look forward to the farmers market. So many amazing vendors can be found there that sell food and crafts. I always pick up flower bouquets from local farms as they are too pretty to resist. Plus, it is nice to get out and support local businesses. Great Summer scrapbooking ideas for outdoor markets include saving your receipts or packages and finding a way to incorporate them in your pages. Not to mention, it is a unique way to recycle.
11. The Perfect Summer Vacation Scrapbook Page

The ocean is calling and I must go. Kayaking in St. Petersburg, Florida is by far one of my favorite memories from our most recent vacation. We got to see so many interesting sea creatures. Including, fish, sand dollars, sharks, and sea urchins. Kayaking through the mangroves was such a serene experience. I am forever grateful I was able to capture some of these moments without dropping my phone in the water (haha).
If you get the opportunity to visit the ocean this Summer go out and explore! It is an excellent idea to keep a waterproof camera on you to document all the wildlife you come across. There are so many fascinating creatures to document that I could make an entire scrapbook out of these adventures.
12. Documenting Summer Reading
Nothing could beat spending the warm afternoon outside while reading. The long Summer days give you the perfect opportunity to catch up on your 'to-be-read' list. If I am being honest, I have an entire stack of unread books on the bookshelf. I love documenting the books I am currently reading in a scrapbooking journal so I can keep an organized list. I will write down the title and rating once I complete a book.
This is a pocket page I complete for my mini album. The pocket which is made out of paper makes it super easy to store pictures and things without glue. Additionally, the pattern design is extremely adorable for a Summertime scrapbook. The yellow lemons just scream sunshine and warmth.
It is important to remember that scrapbooking is entirely personal to you and your style! There are no rights or wrongs when designing your pages. Try cutting the pictures into fun shapes or use colorful patterns in the background. Don't forget to tell your story. The photographs are important, but a small description of what happened can ensure that you never forget the tiny details of that day. If you do not have enough room of the front of your layout you may journal on the back of the page as well.
