Fireworks begin around dusk, but this family-friendly event has plenty to enjoy before the first sparks fly. Enjoy music from the Flamethrowers as they cover all the favorites including Tom American Girl, Don Hen- Boys of Summer and more. Chad Austin will emcee.
Free cotton candy, popcorn, fun jumps and yard games will help ensure the kiddos are entertained. The fireworks will begin as soon as the sun sets and will kick-off with patriotic music. The show is expected to last 15 to 20 minutes.
Attendees should bring their own chair or blanket to view the fireworks. There will be no park- ing in the fairgrounds. This event is free and open to the public. By Emily Burleigh American Press The War Memorial Civic Center in DeRid- der will be continuing a historic tradition a few days ahead of the Fourth of July. The center itself holds historical rele- vance, said Faith Scott, Director.
It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the first off-base United Service Organization (USO) in the United States and was built in 1941. The USO is a non- profit organization chartered by Congress to provide support for service members and their families. For the Fourth of July, this translates to offering almost free co*ke floats. Starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 30, residents will be able to visit the center to purchase a clas- sic co*ke float for five pennies, or a nickel if preferred.
The event will be reminiscent of days past. in the day during World War II, co*ke floats were offered at this location for 5 said Scott. The center will be providing Coca-Cola, Blue Bell cup ice cream and a cup with a lid and a straw. By Kelsea Ernst American Press The Trinity Baptist Church will be hosting its annual Fourth of July celebration, Fire- works and Fun at the Family Place, for the Lake Charles communi- ty on Monday, July 3. The grounds will open at 5:30 p.m. for this free event, and guests can expect to find activities available for all ages. There will be bounce houses, car- nival-type games and waterslides set up on the grounds, and par- ents are recommended to bring along swim- suits, towels and dry clothes for the kids. For the younger kids, an indoor preschool soft play area will be set up with games for them to enjoy as well.
During the event, live music will be per- formed by a local band called the Fresh Coat Trio. They are a jazz en- semble featuring piano, bass and drums, and will be playing two sets. The first set is expected to be from p.m., and the second set from p.m. Should guests find themselves hungry during the event, a va- riety of food trucks will be available to choose from, such as Creole Hidden Garden, Hi-Li- cious Street Kitchen, Grub Hub, Rib Shack Barbecue, Specialty Sno- cones, Bahama and more. Guests are also welcome to bring their own coolers, snacks and non-alco- holic beverages along if they wish.
