Dog treats can be expensive, and can also contain additives none of us want to feed our dogs. I like to know exactly what my dog treats contain by making them myself!
My dog LOVES these three-ingredient peanut butter and banana treats, but I wanted to make some that would help his coat and digestion as well – so I made these Coconut Oil and Mint dog treats and they’re a hit!
How do you make these two-ingredient dog treats?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Coconut Oil
- Fresh Mint
- Silicone Dog Bone Mold
- Small Pot
- Pourable Glass Container (like this one)
- Baking Sheet
Step 2: Cook down the ingredients and pour in the mold.
Chop up the mint using a sharp knife. Use fresh mint, and not dried mint, for this recipe.
Put the coconut oil and mint in a small pot on the stove top and let it melt on low heat until it completely liquifies. This should only take a couple of minutes, so stir continuously.
Transfer the hot liquid to a pourable container like this one. Place the silicone mold on a baking sheet. Then pour the hot liquid into the silicone molds.
Be careful to only fill them about 3/4 way full for best results. Make sure to get all the mint from the pot into the molds.
Step 3: Freeze the Coconut Oil and Mint Dog Treats.
Place the baking sheet and silicone mold in the freezer for 1-2 hours, or until solidified.
Step 4: Storing your Coconut Oil and Mint Dog Treats.
To store your Coconut Oil and Mint Dog Treats in the fridge or freezer in an air-tight container. If you try to store these in the pantry, they’ll melt and you’ll be sad.
Will fresh mint hurt dogs?
According to pet experts, as long as your dog isn’t ingesting more than a few leaves a day, fresh mint won’t hurt them.
In fact, fresh mint not only gets rid of bad breath, but aids in proper digestion! So these fresh mint dog treats are AWESOME for your pup!
Tips and Tricks for making these two-ingredient dog treats:
- Serving Size. Limit your dog to one treat a day to make sure they don’t ingest too much mint or coconut oil in a day.
- Storing. Don’t store these in the pantry, as the coconut oil will re-liquify.
- Feeding. For best results, give these to your dog at their feeding spot, or outdoors. The coconut oil can make a mess!

Make these Coconut Oil and Mint dog treats with just two ingredients! Perfect for bad breath and aids in digestion!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/3 cup fresh mint, chopped
Instructions
- Finely chop your fresh mint.
- Place the chopped mint and coconut oil in your boiling pot. Keep at a low temperature,
you don’t want it to boil, you just want it to reach a liquid state which should only take 2
minutes or so. Continuously stir. - Transfer the liquid coconut oil to a glass measuring cup or another cup that makes it
easier to pour since pouring straight from the pot is definitely a bad idea and doesn’t
work (take it from me). - Place your silicone mold on a flat surface such as a lid, small cookie sheet, or plate.
Pour the liquid contents into the molds and only fill to be about ¾ full. - Some of the mint will be stubborn and not want to come out so you’ll want to take your
spoon and place some of the pieces of mint into each bone section. - Gently place in the freezer for about 2 hours or until treats are solid.
- Store in an airtight container in the freezer.
