The team at Shopping Essentials has long been fans of the Canadian home and furniture company, Silk & Snow. We’ve tested and loved many of the brand’s products, which often appear in our best-of lists, from its flax linen sheets to the down duvet and the hand-knit weighted blanket. We’ve reviewed the original wooden bed frame and even sent a reporter to tour three of its Toronto factories.

We’re such big fans of the Toronto-born brand because the products are made with t better materials using eco-conscious manufacturing practices. The products are also high-quality, aesthetically beautiful and easy to maintain.

Silk & Snow started as a mattress-in-a-box company in 2017 and has been steadily expanding its product offering. The brand launched its Rubberwood capsule in November 2023, featuring lighter tropical wood and handwoven rattan detailing. The collection includes the Rattan Bed Frame and matching one-drawer and two-drawer nightstands.

Read on for my complete review.

Review of Silk & Snow Rattan Bed Frame

Summary: I’ve been sleeping on the rubberwood and rattan bed frame for five months and it has completely transformed my space. It combines blonde rubberwood, a sustainably sourced, highly durable material with handwoven cane rattan that adds a natural, bohemian touch.

I’d suggest two people for set up, as the pieces are heavy, but expect a squeak-free sleeping experience that will garner house guest compliments on repeat.

My experience with the Silk & Snow Rattan Bed Frame

Delivery and assembly: Standard fulfillment is two to four business days for in-stock items. Expect an additional three to nine days for courier delivery, depending on where you are in Canada. The brand ships to the U.S. too, check the FAQ page for updated delivery times. The bed frame (and two nightstands) were delivered in the expected timeframe and everything was well-wrapped and protected with no damage during shipping.

The boxes were heavy and I needed a second person to get them up the stairs. Even still, we were sweating and shouting “pivot” dramatically. Assembly instructions were straightforward and I didn’t experience any hiccups, however, two sets of hands made the process much smoother than if I’d attempted it on my own. I’d strongly recommend enlisting help to ensure you don’t damage any of the parts during setup.

My favourite features: Quality and aesthetic, Japanese joinery

Quality and aesthetic: The bedframe is beautifully made with blonde rubberwood which has a unique grain, along with the show stopping cane headboard which gives an effortless, relaxed, bohemian vibe. It’s solid, meaning no shifting on your floors when a body plops down and no squeaks if you find yourself having a restless night. The shift from a solid wood headboard to this delicate rattan has really softened my space.

Japanese joinery: The frame uses traditional Japanese joinery — the pieces fit together without the use of screws and bolts allowing for a seamless assembly. The joinery also provides a timeless, high-quality finish that makes the frame ultra-sturdy.

My least favourite feature: Made overseas

Made overseas: I would love for the entire manufacturing process to happen within Canada, but Silk & Snow is transparent in its entire production process, which in this case, happens in Vietnam. The wood is sourced from sustainable plantations across Southeast Asia and then cut by a local lumber processing facility that promotes eco-conscious manufacturing principles in Central Vietnam. The natural wood is then sent to a woman-led company for final finishings and construction using high-quality materials.

Add on: Rattan Two-Drawn Night Stands

I opted for matching Two Drawer Rattan Nightstands, which ring in at $495 a pop. There’s a One Drawer option for $427 too, if you aren’t trying to hide all of your junk, like me. The nightstands are minimal and neutral, but the rattan drawers add an element of refined beauty. The craftsmanship and quality are right on par with the bed frame. I love the natural leather pulls and the drawers slide in and out effortlessly.

I initially had all three pieces together but ended up using the nightstands in a guest room to add sophistication to a second space. They came fully assembled (just add the legs) which made it easy to test in different areas of my home. The drawers hold a surprising amount — mine are crammed with books (currently reading Educated by Tara Westover — highly recommend), skin care (currently mixing Prose Custom Serum, Barbora Sturm Anti-Aging Face Cream and Caudalie Firming Night Cream) a red-light therapy mask I’m testing, Loop Earplugs and a ton of body care products. The nightstands are compact at 22″(W) x 14″(L) x 24″(H) yet roomy making them work in all kinds of spaces.
