Health Department even when vaccine is available It was emphasized however that a fourth shot is recommended as a booster The fourth shot must be obtained through a private physician and it was reported that physicians do have vaccine to administer The Health-Department which annually shares in funds contnb-ed through United Givers Fund for the fight against infantile par for the fight graduate of North Warren High School has been a 4-H member since his family moved to Kentucky from West Virginia in 1950 While he has concentrated on dairy animals primarily he also is interested In other areas of farming particularly those that influence or help bring success to his dairy herd Presently the owner of 12 registered dairy cows and seven calves hopes to double his herd to the next two years Money for expansion comes from selling milk and a half acre of bur-ley tobacco he raises each year Until recently he and a hired man did all milking by hand But about a month ago he had a $1 000 cow-to-can milking outfit installed Showing his animals at local shows and county fairs is listed as the young main hobby His most recent blue ribbon came for the bes aged Holstein cow in the 4-H and FFA District Dairy Show last week At the Southern Kentucky Fair this year he took the open Jersey championship after winning the showmanship contest to the 4-H and FFA division In addition he took three first places one second place and one fourth place with Ms animals At Monroe County Fair he was winner of the grand championship in the Jersey class He took the prize for the best club animal in the Black and White (Holstein) Show here and best four-year-old cow in the Jersey Parish Show As a member of the North Warren FFA chapter he served as treasurer during his junior year of high school and vice president his senior year He holds the FFA State Farmer- Degree and lw working on his American Farmer Degree He and his father operate two farms totalling more than 700 acres A variety of crops are grown but they concentrate on grass and grain crops to feed the dairy herd and the senior 75 to 100 beef animals presently sells 250 pounds of milk a day to Pet Milk Company and hopes to double his production in the next two years He looks forward to the day he can go in for a full scale dairy operation He attended Western State College last year working on an agriculture major He has not decided whether to continue his education or not but does plan to stay on the farm The whole family Is active to Baptist Church work in Smiths Grove His mother is president of Smiths Grove
